Yohji Yamamoto's fall-winter 2022-2023 collection showcased in Paris featured navy blue denim blended with his iconic black color palette, contrasting textures, voluminous silhouettes, and architectural elements. The collection exuded sophistication and elegance, reaffirming Yamamoto's status as a master of sartorial artistry.

Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto recently unveiled his highly anticipated fall-winter 2023 collection at the prestigious Hôtel de Ville in Paris, leaving the audience captivated by his attention to detail and artistic vision. The runway was adorned with opulent gilding and chandeliers, providing a lavish backdrop for Yamamoto’s latest creations.

Denim took center stage in this collection, as Yamamoto skillfully blended navy blue denim with his iconic black color palette. Short jackets were layered over dresses, shirts peeked out from under jackets, and scarves were creatively tied or draped along the tops, adding dynamic cut-outs and asymmetrical elements to the ensembles. The jackets featured hanging collars at the back, creating a detached and effortlessly chic look.

Yamamoto’s expertise in contrasting textures was evident throughout the collection, with a play of light veils and heavier fabrics like flannels, creating an intriguing interplay of density and drape. The trousers were mostly tight and cropped, while the overall silhouettes were voluminous, showcasing the designer’s innovative approach to fashion.

The ensembles were carefully structured with cotton poplin drapes and gabardine collars, adding architectural elements to the designs. Pleated organza was used to create intricate crossings on the skirts, adding drama and flair. Ultra-padded down-like coats exuded warmth and comfort, highlighting Yamamoto’s innovative approach to fashion.

The collection concluded with show-stopping silhouettes of great technical complexity. Models were draped in layers of ribbed or cable knit sweaters, evoking an umbrella-like effect with woolen threads hanging, creating a romantic and poetic finale. Throughout the collection, Yamamoto’s mastery of form, texture, and emotion was evident, reaffirming his status as a true master of the craft.
